Objectives

Upon the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • To provide participants with the knowledge and skill to safely operate a Mobile/Tower/Overhead cranes or offshore Pedestal cranes.
  • Get familiarized with the methods of pre-lift planning by understanding the lift plan requirements, module lift and ANSI/OSHA standards
  • Become aware of all aspects of mobile crane safety such as crane signals, crane identification, hoisting systems, and crane safety features
  • Enhance knowledge in risk assessment methodology by reviewing of fatality reports resulting from improper rigging practices, and other special considerations such as slip, trip, fall hazards, electrical hazards, explosive environment and etc.
  • Pre-start up and pre-operational checks
  • Operators responsibility
  • Plan and prepare work/hazard control strategies
  • Engineering principles of cranes
  • Calculation of load mass (weight)
  • Fully understand load factors and limitations of slings and lifting equipment. Inspection of gear
  • Interpret load charts
  • Understand static and dynamic factors
  • Working relation with riggers or dogman (banksman)
  • Ground bearing pressures in relation to stabilizers.
  • Mobiling loads
  • Unloading/loading of supply boats, deck management skills (offshore)
